Health Practice (Amendment) Bill, 2026
Overview
This consultation invites feedback on the Health Practice (Amendment) Bill, 2026, which seeks to enhance current legislation aligning it to international best practices.
The proposed amendments would establish general, overarching standards that apply to all healthcare practitioners in the Cayman Islands. Based on these regulations, each professional Council would develop its own codes of practice and professional standards tailored to the specific responsibilities, risks, and scope of practice within its profession. This approach provides a consistent regulatory foundation across the healthcare sector while allowing profession-specific guidance to be developed by the Councils responsible for oversight of their respective practitioners.
These changes form part of the Government's commitment to strengthen regulatory oversight and enhance both public and patient safety.
Why It Matters
Licensed healthcare professionals are in a unique position of being trusted by their patients with their lives, health and wellbeing. In turn, practitioners must uphold the principles underpinning the privilege of holding a license to practice in the Cayman Islands.
