The National Youth Policy & National Sports Policy
Overview
The National Youth Policy & National Sports Policy lays the groundwork for youth and sports development in the Cayman Islands. Over the next five to ten years, this comprehensive strategy aims to drive success, growth, and address current challenges within the youth and sports sectors.
The urgency to update the existing National Youth and National Sports Policies underscores the necessity for robust guidelines to inform decision-making and to address the needs of these communities.
As part of the effort to update these outdated policies, the Ministry of Youth, Sports & Heritage is conducting a thorough public consultation from March to mid-April.

Why your views matter
The overarching goal is to develop comprehensive policies that promote holistic development, foster inclusivity and equity, and empower individuals to reach their full potential, thereby creating a vibrant and healthy society enriched by active youth engagement and a thriving sports culture. The completion of the policies meets two of the three priorities of the Ministry, specifically: Talent Identification and Development, Enhancement and Empowerment of Youth.
Why do we need a Youth Policy and a Sports Policy?
The need for a National Youth Policy and a National Sports Policy stems from the country’s collective impact on fostering holistic development and well-being within communities. While a youth policy addresses the needs of young people, encompassing education, social support, and empowerment, a sports policy promotes physical health and active living, talent development and identification while encouraging participation and inclusivity.
These policies work together to give people opportunities, bring communities together, and help our country succeed in sports and overall development for our young people. The policies also serve as catalysts for community engagement, addressing social issues impacting our youth, and even boosting our economy by attracting sports-related tourism and improving our facilities.
