Imagine eCayman

A Cayman Islands digital ID and its underlying suite of systems and technologies will launch the Cayman Islands into the 21st Century.

This Government aims to provide an enabling innovation that will truly modernise governance, and transform how Cayman Islands residents transact with Government and businesses, and thereby enhance the digital infrastructure, service delivery and overall economic competitiveness of the country.

To formally launch the digital ID, the Ministry of Investment, Innovation and Social Development has made two Legislative Bills available for public comment. 

The Bills will be read in the December 2022 session of Parliament.

Cayman Islands Identification Card

A Government-issues identity card with digital features for residents of the Cayman Islands.

Identification Register

Protects the integrity of your individual identity information and allows it to be shared securely.

A Modern, Connected Economy & Society

The digital ID will enable the Cayman Islands to build a modern digital society, with best in class Government and private sector services that are streamlined, built on the principles of data protection and security. 

Cayman Islands Identification Card

The Cayman Islands Identification Card will be a government-issued photo ID card, available to every person with the right to reside in the Cayman Islands. 

Benefits to residents:

• Physical and digital proof of your identity  
• Apply your digital signature to documents

• Verify your digital identity online, and use a QR code to update your information and choose to share information 

Digital features of the card facilitate secure identity authentication online, and a qualified digital signature that adheres to EU standards.
 

Identification Register

An official database of all persons with the right to reside in the Cayman Islands containing basic identity information and a unique identification code.

Benefits to residents of the Cayman Islands:

• Proof of your identity (enables digital features)
• Allows any Government entity to treat you as the same person
• Access, share or update your personal identity information  
• Visibility and transparency: see which entity has accessed your information

The Identification Register will be a means for residents of the Cayman Islands to prove their identity, electronically, with a unique identity recorded by the Cayman Islands Government.  Residents and businesses will benefit from a country-level identity they can trust, that is secure, authentic, reliable and durable.
